Your Presence Among the Public Should Inspire Trust, Not Fear: Governor Shri Patel

Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel said that while maintaining law and order is a key responsibility of the police, it is equally important to uphold a public-friendly image. He emphasised, “Your presence among the people should be a symbol of trust, not fear”. Governor Shri Patel was addressing the 77th batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers.

The program, held at Raj Bhavan, was attended by the Governor’s Principal Secretary, Dr. Navneet Mohan Kothari and Principal Staff Officer to the Director General of Police, Shri Vineet Kapoor. Officers from friendly nations Bhutan, Nepal and the Maldives also participated in this training program as part of their Bharat Darshan tour.

Governor Shri Patel stated that police service is a significant responsibility that demands discipline, honesty, impartiality, sensitivity, and a commitment to public service. The common people see the police as protectors of law and justice. He added that the powers and privileges granted to IPS officers are meant to serve the most marginalised sections of society, and officers must always prioritise public service throughout their careers.

Combating Cybercrime is a Crucial Duty

Governor Patel remarked that cybercrime is among the major challenges of the present time, and reducing it is a crucial responsibility. He stressed the need for continuous public awareness and innovative public engagement to tackle the issue effectively. He urged the officers to remain empathetic and sensitive toward the poor, deprived, and weaker sections, especially while serving in remote areas and to use their knowledge and education in the service of the people.

Trainee officer Shri Narayan Upadhyay welcomed the Governor with a plant as a gesture of respect. He also shared detailed insights about the various training programs undertaken during their Bharat Darshan tour. Trainee officers Ms. Neepa Manocha and Shri Rahul R. Atram presented mementoes to the Governor. A vote of thanks was delivered by trainee officer Ms. Sushma Sagar. The program was conducted by AIG Training Ms. Shraddha Joshi. Additional Secretary to the Governor Shri Umashankar Bhargava, Officer on Special Duty Shri Arvind Purohit, and other probationers were also present.
