SIMS Dental Department Sets a New Milestone
Nearly 4,000 Patients Successfully Operated
Complex Surgeries Conducted Free of Cost Under Ayushman Card
Leads All Medical Colleges in Dental Surgeries
Raipur, Aug 2025 : The Ayushman Card has proven to be a boon for patients admitted to the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Bilaspur. Over the past two years, the Dental Department of SIMS has performed major surgeries on 598 admitted patients and minor surgeries on 3,227 patients. By successfully treating nearly 4,000 patients, SIMS’ Dental Department has emerged as the top-performing dental unit among all medical colleges in Chhattisgarh.
One of the most expensive procedures, TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) replacement surgery, which involves jaw joint implantation and costs lakhs of rupees in private hospitals, is being performed free of charge at SIMS. The Dental Department has been executing these complex surgeries using advanced techniques under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. SIMS also leads in providing free treatment to underprivileged patients through Ayushman cards.
A notable example is Dheer Sai, a patient from Jashpur district, whose facial bones were shattered and deformed due to a road accident. The Dental Department at SIMS successfully reconstructed his face through surgery and plating, an achievement that was praised by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. Acknowledging SIMS’ excellent treatment facilities, patients from neighboring states also come here to seek surgical repair for fractured jaws and facial injuries.
To date, SIMS’ Dental Department has performed surgery and plating to reattach the jaws of 550 fracture patients. Additionally, more than 40 patients suffering from oral cancer and various jaw tumors have been successfully treated. Under the guidance of Dr. Bhupendra Kashyap, and leadership of Department Head Dr. Sandeep Prakash, the dental surgery team at SIMS is actively dedicated to providing advanced dental care.
