Airbus Appoints Jurgen Westermeier as New India and South Asia Head

New Delhi, Aug 2025 : Airbus has announced the appointment of Jurgen Westermeier as its new President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, effective from September 1, 2025.

Westermeier, 53, currently serves as Executive Vice-President and Chief Procurement Officer at Airbus. He will succeed Remi Maillard, who has been elevated to the role of Executive Vice-President Engineering for Commercial Aircraft and Head of Technology at Airbus.

India is a key market for Airbus, with significant operations across commercial aviation, defence, and aerospace sectors. In his new role, Westermeier will oversee Airbus’ business operations in India and South Asia, leading initiatives across commercial aircraft, defence and space, and helicopters. His responsibilities will include driving sales, expanding market presence, and enhancing Airbus’ services, engineering, digital solutions, innovation, and training footprint in the region.

Airbus emphasised that Westermeier will play a vital role in advancing the company’s ‘Make in India’ initiatives by supporting projects aligned with the Indian government’s vision of local manufacturing and self-reliance.

“In his new role, Jurgen will spearhead Airbus’ operations in India and South Asia, covering Commercial Aircraft, Defence and Space, and Helicopters. He will be responsible for driving aircraft sales and broadening Airbus’ presence in services, engineering, digital, innovation, and training,” Airbus said in an official statement.

“Jurgen will also help strengthen Airbus’ commitment to ‘Make in India’ by leading initiatives that support the government’s localisation goals,” the statement added.

Westermeier joined Airbus in 2020 as Chief Procurement Officer, where he was responsible for overseeing procurement across all business divisions. He played a key role in building supplier partnerships and driving the development of efficient procurement processes and tools across the organisation.

Before his tenure at Airbus, Westermeier started his professional journey with BMW in 1998. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.

His appointment comes at a time when Airbus is intensifying its focus on the Indian market, which is poised for rapid growth in aviation and defence sectors. Westermeier’s leadership is expected to further strengthen Airbus’ strategic collaborations and growth in the region.
