Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Launches “State Education Policy 2025” – Felicitates Government School Students Entering Top Institutions
At the Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram, Chennai, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin, participated in the event organised by the School Education Department as part of the “Namadhu Sutruchozhi” (Our Neighborhood) programme. During the function, he officially released the Tamil Nadu State Education Policy 2025 – School Education, and felicitated government school students who secured admission into premier higher education institutions by presenting them with appreciation certificates and laptop computers.
Hon’ble Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, graced the occasion with a special address. Hon’ble Ministers Mr. Ma. Subramanian, Mr. K. Sekar Babu, and Mr. K. Ponmudi; Mayor of Greater Chennai Corporation, Ms. Priya; senior IAS officers including Mr. Muruganandam, Mr. Sandeep Saxena, and Mr. Sudhan; Director of School Education, Mr. Kannappan; officials from various government departments; student achievers and their parents; teachers; representatives of local bodies; and members of the media participated in the function.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said:
“Whenever I see school students and young people, I feel a fresh burst of energy. I want you to enjoy your time, study well, succeed, and become role models. Today, we are here to celebrate those among you who have set such an example. Every success story from our students proves the importance of education.
When we came to power during the challenging pandemic period, we ensured that children’s learning was not disrupted by launching initiatives like Illam Thedi Kalvi (Education at Your Doorstep). Your achievements are the result of the trust we placed in you.
No other state in India conducts a felicitation ceremony like this for its students entering top institutions. This is a special, unique event. Our Dravidian Model government wants every school student to complete their schooling and go on to higher education. Those who gain admission into premier institutions should inspire others to aim higher.
This year, 75% of our government school students who completed Phase-2 counselling have entered higher education – a figure I expect will be even higher next year. Our goal is 100%. If you know friends who have not yet enrolled, encourage and support them to continue their education.
In the past three years, 977 government school students have secured admission in top institutions, with 901 admitted this year alone. Admissions are still ongoing, so the number will increase. In 2022, only a single-digit number entered IITs. This year, 27 have done so – a record. Our students have gained entry into 93 premier institutions, across 50 departments, including 150 differently abled students. This shows that our government schools are not merely temples of learning, but temples of achievement.
To you, the real heroes who rise from humble backgrounds through hard work, I say – go forward with courage. The State and the world are ready to applaud you.”
Speaking about the newly released Tamil Nadu State Education Policy 2025, the Chief Minister said:
“Tamil Nadu has a unique character – progressive thinking rooted in strong fundamentals, and a forward-looking vision. This policy aims to nurture students who think, question, and innovate – not just memorise. It will prepare them for life and careers, promote scientific thinking, and encourage creativity along with academics.
Physical education will be valued alongside studies. Tamil will remain our pride, and the bilingual approach – Tamil and English – will be a cornerstone of the policy.
Model schools will be established in every union, along with upgraded hostels. Technology-enabled classrooms, digital learning resources, and activity-based learning will be expanded. Assessments will focus on continuous evaluation rather than rote memorisation. Smart classrooms, well-equipped labs, and community engagement will be part of the system.
Our motto is: Education for All, Quality Education for All. Schools will be open to everyone without discrimination, and no child will be left out. Education will promote rational thinking, and superstitious or unscientific ideas will have no place in schools.
This policy will enable Tamil Nadu students to compete globally and win. Through education, I want you all to become outstanding administrators, politicians, scientists, doctors, engineers, social reformers, and artists – bringing pride to your families and to Tamil Nadu.”
The event concluded with the Chief Minister congratulating all the student achievers and encouraging them to inspire others.
