Record Response to Diploma Admissions; Over 1 Lakh Students Enrolled

Admission deadline extended to September 4

Mumbai, Aug 2025 : Polytechnic diploma courses in the state have received an unprecedented response from students this year. For the 2025–26 academic year, as many as 1,03,115 students have so far secured admission to first-year diploma programs — the highest figure in the past decade — taking the admission percentage to an impressive 93%. Considering this strong response, the admission deadline has been extended from August 14 to September 4, 2025, announced Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant (Dada) Patil.

Minister Patil said that various initiatives implemented by the Directorate of Technical Education, along with measures to boost admissions, have led to this record-breaking intake in polytechnics after ten years. As per the All India Council for Technical Education’s schedule, August 14 was originally the last date for admissions. However, to give an opportunity to students who recently passed the Class 10 supplementary exam, and taking into account the festive holidays, the deadline has been extended. Students can now approach institutions until September 4, 2025, to secure seats in vacant positions. This same date will also apply to direct second-year admissions as well as diploma courses in Hotel Management & Catering Technology (HMCT) and Surface Coating offered after Class 12.

Diploma courses after Class 10 are proving to be an excellent option for both employment and higher education. Innovative programs such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Robotics; awareness campaigns for students; MoUs with industry; and self-learning assessments have all contributed to this record-breaking response, Minister Patil added.
