Lucknow, Aug 2025 : On Wednesday, students from Parmeshwari Devi Dhanuka Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Vrindavan in Mathura district were overjoyed when Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh patiently and frankly answered their questions. The students, who had come to observe Assembly proceedings and understand parliamentary details, carried a deep curiosity about their future in their eyes, while the minister’s words reflected clarity and solutions. His polite demeanor brought a sense of reassurance to the students’ faces.

Throughout the interaction, Minister Singh addressed each question with patience and assured the children that the government takes their thoughts, questions, and dreams seriously and is actively working on them.

Key questions and the minister’s responses

  • On the syllabus of council schools:
    The minister clarified that preparing the syllabus is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, where experts work on it. Earlier, the syllabus was prepared through SCERT, but now NCERT standards are being followed. Students in council schools are now studying under the NCERT curriculum.
  • On dilapidated school buildings and mergers:
    No school has been closed, the minister said. Dilapidated buildings are being demolished and replaced with new school structures. Soon, all such schools will have a fresh look.
  • On including district history and local personalities in the curriculum:
    A student requested that along with Mughal history, the history of their district and local notable figures be included in lessons. The minister informed them that a district-wise history and personalities book is being prepared, which will be taught to students from classes 1 to 8, with plans to integrate it into the official curriculum in the future.
  • On reservations:
    Reservation is a national policy, and no state can change it, he said, adding that all norms are being followed in full.
  • On the New Education Policy (NEP):
    The minimum age for admission to class 1 has been set at six years, with pre-primary education beforehand to prepare children for first grade.
  • On the difficulty of UP Board question papers compared to other boards:
    Question papers are set by a committee, with no interference from the government, the minister explained.
