Message of General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram on the occasion of Independence Day 2025

My Dear People of Mizoram

CHIBAI

On this momentous occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, I extend my warmest greetings to every resident of our beloved State. On this solemn occasion, we remember with deep reverence and heartfelt gratitude the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed and struggled tirelessly for our nation’s independence. I join the entire nation in paying our profound respects to these valiant heroes, whose legacy continues to inspire us.

Our nations stands resilient in the face of numerous challenges, including the grievous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.  We solemnly remember the victims, standing in solidarity with their families and honouring their memory with an unwavering resolve to combat such acts of violence. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our esteemed leadership and brave armed forces for the exemplary success of Operation Sindoor, a testament to our nation’s unyielding determination to safeguard its sovereignty.

Some countries have imposed trade barriers, and as responsible citizens, we must support our national policies to advance Atmanirbhar Bharat. By choosing indigenous products, we can strengthen our economy and promote self-reliance.  This should become a Mantra for all of us in the interest of our Nation.

It is with profound pride that I congratulate Mizoram’s extraordinary distinction as India’s first fully literate State, a milestone that reflects our collective dedication to knowledge and progress. Let us nurture this legacy by fostering a vibrant educational ecosystem, where our students flourish in diverse fields, emerging as responsible citizens and visionary leaders who will shape the destiny of our nation.

I am delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to Mr. Andrew Lalchhandama for his commendable achievement in qualifying as an Indian Information Service (IIS) Officer. His success is a source of inspiration, and I earnestly encourage the youth of Mizoram to aspire for Central Services, securing prominent roles in India’s administrative framework and bringing laurels to our State.

As we enter the concluding year of the eighth decade since Independence, Mizoram is finally getting connected with the national rail network. It will give a renewed momentum to national integration by way of enhanced industrial, business and trade network. It will also open up new educational opportunities for our youth who will find it easier to travel to other parts of country for education and work. It will also help us reposition Mizo culture and products of traditional Mizo economy before national audience for better recognition and growth.

I would also say to the youth to come forward and join the national campaign of ‘Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect’. Hon’ble Prime Minister is launching this mission in August, 2025. His inaugural address will be televised live throughout the country. In Phase-I, it will cover all the district headquarters and will last for 90 days from  August, 2025 to November,2025. In Phase-II, it will be rolled out to cover all educational institutions in all the Development Blocks and villages, and will last for a year.

Yuva Connect is a platform – physical as well as digital – where youth of today’s India will share their conception of Viksit Bharat. Senior political executives from the Centre and State Governments will join the Seminars and will take note of the vision of our youth, which will be discussed and then incorporated in the policies and programmes of Government of India, as well as State Governments to build the Viksit Bharat of their vision/dreams.

Mizoram is privileged to have Institutions such as Eklavya Model Residential School, Sainik School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. I urge our young minds to seize these opportunities, venture beyond their comfort zone, and explore diverse career pathways outside our State, thereby carving a legacy of excellence and contribution. I am confident or your hard work and desire to succeed.

Given Mizoram’s strategic location, I call upon all citizens to redouble our efforts in vital campaigns to eradicate tuberculosis, combat substance abuse and curb drug peddling.  Through collective resolve and tireless dedication, we can foster a healthier, safer, and more prosperous Mizoram for all. This should be our community service to be part of these campaigns. A drug free, healthy and vibrant Mizoram should be our aim.

Our state is endowed with unparalleled potential to lead in organic production.  I encourage our farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs to champion organic farming, marking Mizoram as a leading producer of organic products on national and global platforms.  We need to relook at our production and supply chains so that we can take a lead in Organic products.

On this Independence Day, let us commit to working together to realize the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, honoring the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and building a future worthy of their dreams.

Once again, I wish all of you a Happy Independence Day.

KA LAWM E.  JAI HIND
