CM Dhami Virtually Participates in Partition Horrors Remembrance Day Program in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar

On Thursday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami virtually participated in the program organized in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. On this occasion, he laid the foundation stone for the Partition Memorial Site.

Paying tribute to those who endured the agony of India’s partition, the CM said that 14 August 1947 is a day we can never forget—when, under the guise of religion, India was divided into two parts. While on 15 August 1947 the nation was preparing to celebrate independence, just a day earlier the country was split into two. Millions had to endure the horrors of partition, leaving behind their homes, villages, farms, businesses, and loved ones, and were forced to live as refugees. Even today, the eyes of those whose parents perished in that dark chapter of history still reflect that pain.

The CM said that for today’s youth, it is difficult to even comprehend the unimaginable suffering, fear, and struggle experienced by those who lived through that period. The sacrifices made in exchange for the country’s freedom can never be repaid. Recognizing the importance of their sacrifice and suffering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided in 2021 to observe 14 August as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, so that future generations will always remember the sacrifices of their ancestors.

He added that the partition was not merely a division of territory—it was also the division of millions of lives and their cultural identities. History had never before witnessed such a massive and tragic displacement of people. The CM expressed deep sympathy for those who faced hostility and malice during that period but still maintained unshakable faith in their religion, culture, and nation.

CM Dhami said that under PM Modi’s leadership, India is witnessing holistic development, along with significant efforts to preserve and promote the nation’s cultural heritage, traditions, and values. The grand construction of the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the reconstruction of Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham, the expansion of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, the creation of Mahakal Lok, and the construction of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor are all reviving the nation’s religious legacy with grandeur and divinity, ushering in a new wave of cultural renaissance.

He further highlighted landmark decisions such as the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir, ending the social evil of triple talaq, implementing the CAA and Waqf Amendment Act, and delivering justice to the 1984 riot victims—all contributing to the vision of “One India, Great India.”

The CM said that under PM Modi’s guidance, Uttarakhand is setting new benchmarks in development and prosperity. The state’s infrastructure—covering roads, education, healthcare, and drinking water—is being strengthened. Efforts are also underway to preserve and promote Uttarakhand’s rich cultural heritage. Along with revitalizing the ancient temples of Kedarkhand, similar work is being done for the temples of Manaskhand. The Chatia Temple in Kashipur has been included in the Manaskhand Corridor.

To make the pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib safer and more convenient for Sikh devotees, a 12.5 km ropeway from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib is being constructed. Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Following the enforcement of the country’s most stringent anti-cheating law, more than 24,000 youth have successfully secured government jobs. The state government is fully committed to preserving Uttarakhand’s cultural values and demographic balance, with strict anti-conversion and anti-riot laws now in force. Over 7,000 acres of government land have been freed from encroachment.

The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, MP Ajay Bhatt, Mayor of Kashipur Deepak Bali, Mayor of Rudrapur Vesa Sharma, MLA Trilok Singh Cheema, former MLA Harbhajan Singh Cheema, Swami Hari Chaitanya Ji Maharaj, Ajay Maurya, and other public representatives.
