CM Bhagwant Mann Leads 79th Independence Day Celebrations, Announces Major Welfare and Development Initiatives
Faridkot, Aug 2025 — The historic city of Faridkot turned into a vibrant sea of saffron, white, and green on Friday as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann hoisted the tricolour during the state-level celebrations marking India’s 79th Independence Day. The ceremony was not only a tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters but also a platform for announcing a slew of welfare, health, education, sports, agriculture, and infrastructure initiatives for the people of Punjab.

Addressing the gathering, CM Mann paid glowing tribute to the unparalleled contribution of Punjabis in India’s freedom struggle. “The unique and unmatched role of Punjabis in the Indian freedom struggle is not hidden from anyone. More than 80 per cent of the sacrifices in making the country independent have been made by Punjabis,” he said. “It is our duty to honour the martyrs by taking care of their families and building the state they dreamed of.”
He highlighted that Punjab is the first state in the country to provide financial assistance of ₹1 crore to the families of its martyred soldiers, reaffirming his government’s commitment to the welfare of the armed forces and their dependents. “This freedom was gained at a high price, and it is our sacred responsibility to safeguard it,” he added, extending his best wishes for Independence Day to all citizens.

Healthcare Push: Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana from October 2
In a major announcement, Mann revealed that the ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’ will be launched on October 2, 2025, offering free medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh for every family in Punjab — without the burden of paperwork. The scheme, he said, will benefit nearly 3 crore residents.
Currently, 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics are operating across the state, serving around 70,000 patients daily. Mann announced plans to dedicate 200 additional clinics to the public in the near future, further strengthening the state’s healthcare network.
Education Reforms and Drug-Free Punjab
Mann noted significant improvements in government school results, crediting focused reforms and investments in education. “Our talented children are now passing the most competitive exams in the country, bringing glory to Punjab. The education revolution here is gaining recognition nationwide,” he said.
On the battle against drug abuse, Mann said his government’s “War against Drugs” had led to the arrest of both major and minor smugglers, alongside confiscations of properties acquired through illicit money. The state has also implemented anti-drone technology to secure border areas against drug trafficking. “We are committed to eradicating this menace and saving our youth,” he stressed.

Sports and Youth Engagement
To promote healthy lifestyles and provide positive avenues for young people, the state has been encouraging sports through the ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ initiative, which aims to connect youth to athletic fields. “It is a matter of great pride that Punjab’s promising players are now captains in major sports competitions across India,” Mann said.
Support for Farmers and Rural Development
The Chief Minister underscored his government’s achievements in providing uninterrupted free electricity to households and farmers, improving the canal system, and increasing the use of canal water from 21 per cent to 63 per cent over the last three years. “Our farmers have no shortage of water and electricity today,” he claimed.
On rural infrastructure, Mann pledged the construction of new link roads connecting villages to cities, as well as cleaning village ponds and water sources under the Sehechewal and Thapar models. “We are committed to the all-round development of villages,” he said.
Industrial Growth and Trade Reforms
Highlighting Punjab’s industrial progress, Mann said the state was attracting major investments from both Indian and international companies. “We have stopped the exploitation of traders by introducing a single-window and single-PAN system, ensuring a safe and transparent environment for business,” he said.
Road Safety Achievements
The CM pointed to a 48 per cent reduction in road accident fatalities thanks to the creation of the Road Safety Force (SSF), a measure that was lauded in Parliament. “Earlier, the number of deaths in road accidents was alarming, but through focused efforts, we have saved countless lives,” he noted.
A Salute to the Martyrs
The event also saw Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav address the crowd, urging citizens to honour the sacrifices of the freedom fighters. “May the spirit of freedom ignite our hearts with renewed resolve to build a stronger, safer, and more united India,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Proud to serve under the Tricolour, and dedicated to safeguarding its ideals. Wishing all Indians a safe, joyous and blessed Independence Day.”
Ceremonial Grandeur and Public Participation
The Independence Day celebrations at Faridkot were marked by ceremonial parades, cultural performances, and patriotic songs that showcased Punjab’s rich heritage and the spirit of national unity. Schoolchildren, contingents from the Punjab Police, and various government departments participated in the march-past.
The tricolour fluttered proudly against the backdrop of a clear morning sky as thousands of citizens gathered to witness the hoisting, many waving miniature flags and chanting patriotic slogans.
In concluding his address, CM Mann urged the people of Punjab to come together in preserving the hard-earned freedom and contributing to the state’s progress. “We must work hand in hand to make Punjab not only the land of martyrs but also the land of opportunity, prosperity, and peace,” he said.
