Leader of Opposition Atishi Writes to CM, Says Delhiites Facing Water Crisis Due to BJP Government’s Mismanagement

  • “In many areas including Kalkaji, Badarpur, and South-Central Delhi, water taps have run dry,” said Atishi.
  • “Delhi’s streets are flooded, but taps are empty—this is the true picture of BJP government’s mismanagement,” she added.
  • “If this is the situation during monsoon, what will happen in summer? The four-engine BJP government has failed on every front,” Atishi remarked.

New Delhi, Aug 2025:Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, has written a letter to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta demanding urgent action to resolve the worsening water shortage in the national capital.

Atishi said that despite the monsoon season, residents in many parts of Delhi are struggling with severe water scarcity. “In Kalkaji, Badarpur, and South-Central Delhi, taps have already dried up. On one hand, Delhi’s streets are waterlogged due to heavy rains, but on the other hand, there is no water in taps. This exposes the BJP government’s poor governance. If this is the condition during monsoon, what will happen in summer? The so-called four-engine government has failed on every front,” she wrote.

Highlighting the alarming situation, Atishi pointed out that residents in densely populated areas such as Kalkaji, Badarpur, Okhla, and parts of South and Central Delhi are facing an unexplained severe water crisis. “It is shocking that despite unprecedented monsoon rains, Delhi is suffering from water shortage. While the city is submerged in rainwater, households are struggling daily to get drinking water,” she added.

Atishi strongly criticized the BJP-led Delhi government and the Delhi Jal Board, questioning their preparedness and efficiency. “This crisis raises serious concerns about the functioning and planning of the BJP government and the Jal Board. If such a situation exists even during the rainy season, what will Delhi face in the summer months? Your government has been in charge of the Jal Board for nearly six months now. You cannot continue with excuses and blame-shifting,” she wrote.

She also questioned Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s role, pointing out that despite being with the Prime Minister and the Haryana Chief Minister on Sunday, Delhi continues to struggle. “How is it possible that even with BJP’s so-called four-engine government—at the Centre, in Delhi, and in neighboring states—people of the national capital are still struggling for water? It seems Delhiites are suffering simply because they placed their trust in the BJP,” Atishi said.
