Yogi Government opens doors to global education — Now UP students will study in the UK
Lucknow, Aug 2025 : In the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence on Tuesday, a historic agreement was signed between the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom. Under this agreement, the “Chevening–Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme” has been launched. The scheme will provide scholarships to five talented students from Uttar Pradesh every year to pursue Master’s degrees at prestigious universities in the United Kingdom.
Under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath, the state government is working not only to provide national recognition but also international opportunities to its brightest students. On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the scholarship scheme will give a new direction to the state’s education system and will serve as a strong medium to prepare youth for “global leadership roles.”
Global Exposure for Students
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the purpose of the scheme is to give meritorious students an opportunity to excel in education, research, and leadership at the international level. The scheme will operate for three academic years—2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28—after which it will be renewed in 2028-29.
Launched as an inspiration from Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the scheme will help students of Uttar Pradesh achieve new heights in global education and leadership. CM Yogi urged students to make the most of this opportunity and bring pride to Uttar Pradesh and the nation.
Complete Coverage of Studies and Expenses
The scholarship will cover full tuition fees, examination and research fees, living allowance, and airfare to and from the UK. The estimated cost per student will be between £38,048 and £42,076 (approximately ₹45–48 lakh). Out of this, the Uttar Pradesh government will contribute around £19,800 (₹23 lakh), while the remaining expenses will be covered by the FCDO, UK.
British High Commissioner Welcomes the Initiative
British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, who signed the MoU in Lucknow in the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath, praised the initiative. She said, “It is a great pleasure to be in Lucknow to sign this agreement. Under this new Chevening Scholarship, five students every year will get the opportunity to pursue their studies in the UK on a full scholarship for the next three years. This is a symbol of the growing relationship between the United Kingdom and India.”
She further added that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the UK, both Prime Ministers signed the Trade Agreement and Vision 35, which will open remarkable opportunities not only in education but also in trade. This partnership will greatly benefit Indian students, especially those from Uttar Pradesh, by giving them access to a truly global platform.
