Red Alert Issued for Five Districts in Maharashtra for the Next 24 Hours; High Wave Warning for Konkan Coast

State Emergency Operations Centre Update

Mumbai, Aug 2025: A red alert has been issued for the next 24 hours in five districts of Maharashtra—Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Gadchiroli districts, as well as the Kolhapur Ghat region. Based on the heavy rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), all district administrations have been directed to remain on high alert in case of emergencies, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre.

High Wave Warning for Konkan Coast

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a high wave warning for Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, and Ratnagiri districts, forecasting waves between 3.5 to 4.3 meters from 5:30 pm on August 18, 2025, to 5:30 am on August 21, 2025. For Sindhudurg district, waves between 3.3 to 3.8 meters are expected from 5:30 am on August 18, 2025, to 11:30 am on August 20, 2025.

Advisory for Fishermen

As rough sea conditions with winds blowing at speeds of 50–60 kmph are expected during this period, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea. Warnings have also been issued regarding coastal erosion and strong wave impacts along the shoreline, prompting all district administrations to remain alert.

Rising River Levels

Several rivers have crossed warning levels, including Jagbudi, Shastri, and Kodvali in Ratnagiri district; Kundalika river in Raigad district; and Gad and Waghote rivers in Sindhudurg district. Citizens in these areas have been urged to remain cautious by the district administrations.

Disaster Response and Rescue Efforts

A State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team is currently deployed in Mukhed, Nanded taluka, where 293 citizens have already been safely relocated. The state government is maintaining constant contact with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) to receive updated forecasts, which are being relayed to all districts.

20 Weather Alerts Sent to 34 Crore Citizens

Using the SACHET platform, a total of 20 weather alert messages have been sent to over 34 crore citizens across the state via SMS. In Mumbai, waterlogging has been reported in 24 locations, and drainage clearance operations are being carried out on a war footing, the State Emergency Operations Centre confirmed.
