India to Become a Hub for Gaming, Innovation, and Creativity: PM Modi

New Delhi, Aug 2025 : On August21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the Online Gaming Bill demonstrates India’s commitment to becoming a hub for gaming, innovation, and creativity. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill,2025, passed by Parliament, aims to promote beneficial online gaming while prohibiting harmful activities.

The bill categorizes online games into three segments: e-Sports, Online Social Games, and Online Money Games. PM Modi emphasized that the bill will encourage e-sports and online social games while protecting society from the harmful effects of online money games.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained that e-Sports, like cricket or football, require strategy, reflexes, and teamwork, and will receive legal recognition and government support. Online social games, such as Angry Birds and casual brain games, are recognized as safe and educational.

However, Vaishnaw highlighted the dangers of online money games, which can lead to addiction, financial ruin, and even suicides. He stated that the government will prohibit these games and prioritize the safety of families over other interests.

The minister emphasized that online money games have destroyed thousands of families and wiped out middle-class savings. He noted that the government has received numerous complaints and grievances across the country and has chosen to prioritize society’s welfare over government revenue.

PM Modi’s statement on social media platform X highlighted the bill’s balanced approach, which aims to promote innovation and creativity while protecting vulnerable sections of society. The government’s move is expected to have a positive impact on India’s gaming industry and promote responsible gaming practices.
