Raipur to Celebrate in the Traditional Colors of Teeja-Pora

Special gifts for mothers and sisters, traditional Chhattisgarhi delicacies to be enjoyed
Traditional games, cultural decorations, and vibrant activities lined up

Raipur, Aug 2025The capital city Raipur is set to immerse itself in the rich traditional hues of Chhattisgarh as the Teeja-Pora festival and Women’s Conference will be celebrated on August 24 at the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, marking the Chhattisgarh Silver Jubilee Celebrations.

The auditorium premises have been transformed with colorful nandia-baila (bullock cart displays), traditional toys, vibrant vandanwars (door hangings), and Chhattisgarhi decorative elements, creating a festive atmosphere.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Women & Child Development Minister Lakshmi Rajwade, preparations for the grand celebration are nearly complete. Around 3,000 women are expected to participate, including beneficiaries of the Mata Vandana Yojana, women from self-help groups, and Mitanins (community health workers).

The festival will include worship rituals of Lord Shiva-Parvati, nandia-baila, and agricultural tools. For women, traditional competitions like phugdi, jalebi race, lemon-spoon race, and tug-of-war will be organized. Mehendi, bangles, and aalta (traditional dye) stalls will also add charm to the festivities. Special gifts will be presented to women, along with the opportunity to relish authentic Chhattisgarhi cuisine.

The cultural richness of the festival will be further enhanced with special performances by Padma Shri Usha Barle and renowned folk singer Aru Sahu. The program will be graced by Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Arun Sao, ministers of the state government, and several dignitaries.

The Women & Child Development Department, which is hosting the event, highlighted that Teeja holds a special place in Chhattisgarh’s folk culture. More than just a religious or traditional observance, Teeja-Pora strengthens social and familial bonds. Falling in the month of Bhado, this festival brings affection from the maternal home to sisters, daughters, and mothers. Families invite women back to their parental homes, honoring them with love and gifts.

Women observe a nirjala fast (without food or water) and worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for happiness and prosperity in married life. Teeja is truly a symbol of Chhattisgarh’s identity, where culture, tradition, and love come together in a unique harmony.
