Hyderabad Emerging as India’s Life Sciences and Medtech Hub

Hyderabad, Aug 2025 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday highlighted Hyderabad’s transformation from a hub of traditional manufacturing to a global center of innovation in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology. He assured that the state government would extend full support to innovations in medical products through biodesign, making the government an active partner in driving progress.

Speaking at the Biodesign Innovation Summit held at AIG Hospital, Hyderabad, the Chief Minister underlined the city’s unique strengths in fostering innovation. He said Hyderabad enjoys the advantage of strong academic institutions, skilled workforce, and effective industry partnerships, which together create a robust innovation ecosystem.

Advocating for indigenous innovation to meet India’s healthcare needs, Reddy emphasized that innovators and researchers in Telangana will be granted access to the state’s vast repository of historical medical data, with strict adherence to data privacy protocols.

“We will connect innovators with academic institutions, research bodies, innovation agencies, Young India Skills University, and corporations. For many years, our brightest minds have been solving problems of other nations. While that is commendable, the time has now come to use our intelligence to serve our own people,” the Chief Minister said.

He congratulated Dr. Nageswara Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, for spearheading research using the biodesign methodology in medtech. Biodesign, he explained, is a structured process to address unmet clinical needs by creating practical, scalable healthcare solutions. It involves not only designing and manufacturing devices but also clinically validating them before large-scale adoption.

Reddy also reiterated Telangana’s emergence as India’s life sciences hub, noting that the state has witnessed significant investments in diagnostic devices, imaging technologies, implants, surgical tools, and digital health solutions. Highlighting the government’s vision, he announced that Telangana aims to become a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.

One of Telangana’s flagship initiatives, the Medical Devices Park in Sultanpur, is already operational with over 60 domestic and global companies. The park, touted as India’s largest of its kind, offers state-of-the-art infrastructure for research, prototyping, testing, and large-scale manufacturing of medical devices.

Appreciating the role of startups, MSMEs, and local enterprises in building a dynamic ecosystem, the Chief Minister said this strong foundation makes Hyderabad a unique and vibrant global destination for medtech innovation.

“With the right blend of government support, academic expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit, Hyderabad will lead the way in developing affordable and cutting-edge healthcare solutions for India and the world,” Reddy affirmed.
