KTR Challenges Revanth Reddy to Face By-Elections as Referendum on Congress Rule
KTR launched a blistering attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of heavy borrowing without delivering development, misusing HYDRAA, and failing the people. He challenged the CM to face the upcoming by-elections as a referendum on Congress governance and accountability.
Ranga Reddy, Aug 2025 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging him to present the record of his 20-month rule before the people and face the upcoming by-elections as a referendum on his governance.
Addressing a massive gathering of BRS cadres from the Serilingampally constituency, KTR accused the Congress government of failing the people, resorting to blackmail through the Hyderabad Disaster Management and Property Protection Agency (HYDRAA), and misusing public funds without delivering any meaningful development.
“In 10 years of BRS rule, not a single leader laid hands on real estate or resorted to land grabbing,” KTR declared. “But in just 20 months, Congress leaders have spread chaos in Hyderabad through HYDRAA. Even court orders are being ignored and houses of the poor are being demolished mercilessly.”
He alleged that the Congress administration has pushed Hyderabad’s real estate sector into crisis through extortion and illegal practices. Referring to a tragic case, he said a woman named Buchamma in Kukatpalli committed suicide fearing HYDRAA would demolish her home. “HYDRAA has turned into a blackmail racket for Congress leaders—threatening builders, levying illegal taxes, and harassing the poor,” he alleged.
KTR compared BRS’s record with that of the Congress government. “In 10 years, BRS borrowed ₹2.85 lakh crore and used it to build 42 flyovers, world-class hospitals, and sewage treatment plants in Hyderabad. But Revanth Reddy borrowed ₹2.2 lakh crore in just 20 months. What has he built? Not a single bridge or stormwater drain,” KTR asked.
He further added, “KCR deposited ₹70,000 crore directly into the accounts of 70 lakh farmers. What has Revanth done with ₹2 lakh crore? KCR increased pensions from ₹200 to ₹2,000. What has Revanth done for the elderly?”
KTR accused the Congress of double standards, pointing to alleged illegal constructions linked to the Chief Minister’s own family. “Does HYDRAA have the courage to demolish the illegal house built by Revanth Reddy’s brother Tirupati Reddy in Durgam Cheruvu FTL area? Why are the houses of the poor being demolished while the rich and powerful are spared?” he questioned.
Recalling the transformation under BRS rule, KTR said that Telangana achieved remarkable progress in both welfare and development during K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) decade-long leadership. “In 2014, we had just two MLAs in Greater Hyderabad. Within six months of coming to power, KCR solved the power crisis—ending the need for inverters and generators in every household. Hyderabad became a city beyond caste, religion, or regional divides,” he said.
He added that KCR gave equal respect to all communities: “From Dussehra gifts to Hindu girls, Ramzan gifts to poor Muslims, and Christmas gifts to Christians—every festival was celebrated with dignity.” According to KTR, this inclusive approach was why the Congress failed to secure even a single seat in Hyderabad during the 2023 elections.
KTR also condemned Congress MLAs who defected from BRS, calling them “selfish opportunists.” He dared them to resign and contest again if they truly believed in serving the people. “If the Congress really thinks it has earned public trust, let these MLAs face the by-elections and win again,” he challenged.
He further ridiculed Revanth Reddy’s style of governance, describing it as “petty and time-pass politics.” “One day he files cases against KCR, the next day against himself. In 20 months, he has done nothing for Hyderabad,” KTR remarked.
Concluding his speech, KTR praised loyal party workers for their unwavering commitment despite political challenges. “Some leaders may have betrayed us, but our true strength lies in our cadre who have never left the pink flag. That is what will keep BRS strong,” he said, drawing loud cheers from the gathering.
By framing the upcoming by-elections as a referendum, KTR positioned the contest as not just a political battle but a test of governance, accountability, and credibility between BRS’s decade of achievements and Congress’s short tenure.
