Commercial LPG Prices Reduced by ₹51.50; Domestic Cylinder Rates Unchanged
New Delhi, Aug 2025 : Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on Sunday announced a reduction in the price of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹51.50, effective September 1. With this revision, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi will cost ₹1,580.
This is the latest in a series of price revisions over the past few months. Earlier, OMCs had cut the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder by ₹33.50, following a larger reduction of ₹58.50 on July 1. In June, rates were lowered by ₹24, setting the cylinder price at ₹1,723.50. In April, it stood higher at ₹1,762. February had seen a small cut of ₹7, which was partially reversed in March with a ₹6 hike.
While commercial users have benefitted from these adjustments, OMCs clarified that there will be no change in the price of 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders. The price of domestic cylinders has remained steady despite fluctuations in the commercial segment.
Industry experts noted that the reduction would provide much-needed relief to restaurants, hotels, and other businesses that rely heavily on commercial LPG cylinders for their operations. These revisions are part of the monthly pricing mechanism, which reflects movements in global crude oil prices and other market conditions.
Meanwhile, on the domestic front, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently approved a targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2-kg cylinder for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries. The subsidy will apply to up to nine refills per year, with proportional benefits for 5-kg cylinders, during FY 2025-26. The total estimated expenditure for this initiative is ₹12,000 crore.
Launched in May 2016, the PMUY aims to provide deposit-free LPG connections to adult women from economically weaker households. As of July 1, 2025, the scheme has expanded to cover nearly 10.33 crore beneficiaries across India.
The twin developments—commercial price cuts and continued domestic subsidies—underline the government and OMCs’ efforts to balance affordability for both households and businesses amid shifting global energy markets.
