Over 1,700 beneficiaries receive free housing as part of flood relief operations in UP
Lucknow : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is actively monitoring the flood-affected areas, leading to intensive relief operations in 26 cities hit by the disaster. Relief assistance has been provided to 9,23,134 individuals so far.
In response to the damage of 2,138 houses, free housing has been offered to 1,759 beneficiaries, with the process ongoing for 379 more. The comprehensive efforts are aimed at addressing the immediate needs of those impacted by the floods.
Over 9 lakh people received relief assistance
Relief Commissioner GS Naveen mentioned that 26 districts in the state are currently affected by floods. These include Lakhimpur Kheri, Balrampur, Kushinagar, Shahjahanpur, Barabanki, Sitapur, Gonda, Siddharthnagar, Ballia, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Azamgarh, Hardoi, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Badaun, Farrukhabad, Basti, Deoria, Mau, Moradabad, Rampur, Maharajganj, Unnao, Pilibhit, and Shravasti.
In these flood-affected districts, 77 tehsils, 1,809 villages, 40 wards, and 141 erosion-prone villages are impacted, with a total population of over 16 lakh. Relief assistance has been provided to 9,23,134 people so far.
The Relief Commissioner further informed that 34,959 cattle have been moved to safe locations. The disaster has claimed 17 lives, and the families of the deceased have received Rs 4 lakh each from the state government. Moreover, 29 cattle have died due to the floods, and compensation has been provided to all livestock owners. So far, 2,138 houses have been damaged by the floods, with 1,759 beneficiaries receiving free housing and the process ongoing for 379 more. He said that 101 public properties have been damaged by the floods.
Over 2 lakh food packets distributed amidst flood crisis
The Relief Commissioner informed that currently, 3,44,012.656 hectares of land in the state are affected by floods. To assist the flood-affected population, 2,773 boats and motorboats are being deployed. So far, 2,12,678 food packets and 8,01,198 lunch packets have been distributed in the affected areas, along with the operation of 52 community kitchens. Additionally, 3,492.4 quintals of fodder have been distributed for livestock.
He also mentioned that the state has established 1,357 flood relief shelters, 1,508 flood control centers, and 2,014 medical teams. A total of 15,764 people have been relocated to safe places. To support health and hygiene, 9,47,932 chlorine tablets and 3,83,268 ORS packets have been distributed. Currently, 2,666 people are residing in flood shelters.
