Transport Department to Become the Driving Force of a Developed Uttar Pradesh: CM Yogi

Lucknow, Sept 2025 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday inaugurated and digitally launched various services of the Transport Department at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. Congratulating the department, he said that the Transport Department is the largest public transport provider in the state and must become the driving force of the vision of a developed India. He noted that Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has the country’s largest fleet, which is an achievement in itself, though it also brings major challenges.

The Chief Minister praised the initiative of providing free bus travel to women for three days during Raksha Bandhan and urged the department to strengthen such welfare services.

Keeping pace with time
CM Yogi stressed that anyone—be it an individual, society, or nation—who lags behind the pace of time is left behind forever. He urged the department to prepare short-term (3 years), medium-term (10 years), and long-term (22 years) plans. He directed that delays in file movement must end, public grievances should be addressed swiftly, and teamwork must be strengthened for quick results.

A trusted partner in crises
The CM recalled how the Transport Department has set benchmarks during crises. In the 2019 Prayagraj Kumbh and the COVID-19 pandemic, the department played a key role in safely transporting migrants not only within Uttar Pradesh but also to states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand. During the 2025 Mahakumbh, the department again managed massive crowds and ensured safe travel for millions of pilgrims.

Road safety—a major challenge
Highlighting road safety as the biggest responsibility, Yogi said that more lives are lost annually in road accidents than during the three years of COVID-19. Most victims are youth, devastating families. He instructed that all bus drivers must undergo mandatory medical and fitness tests every three months, with special focus on eyesight, to prevent accidents caused by vision defects.

Awareness and coordination key to solutions
The CM emphasized mass awareness campaigns on road safety, with technical support from IIT Kharagpur, cooperation with police and other departments, and traffic education in schools. He called for strict enforcement of rules on helmets, seat belts, drunken driving, and overspeeding, supported by campaigns through print, digital, and social media. “Law may seem strict at times, but it ensures safety and saves lives,” he said.

Modern transport and green mobility
Yogi stressed that development must be in harmony with nature, highlighting electric vehicles as crucial for achieving the Prime Minister’s Net Zero emission target. He said that improved public transport and village-to-village connectivity could create three lakh jobs while reducing pollution. He also directed focus on world-class bus stations, modern passenger facilities, organized parking, and a strong vehicle scrapping policy to reduce accidents and pollution.

The Chief Minister concluded that the department must modernize and plan ahead with accountability, becoming a true partner in the state’s growth.

The event was attended by Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, MLAs Jai Devi, Amresh Kumar, OP Srivastava, Yogesh Shukla, MLC Ramchandra Pradhan, Mukesh Sharma, Transport Principal Secretary Amit Gupta, Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh, and UPSRTC MD Masoom Ali Sarwar, among others.
