Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Campaign to be Implemented Widely Across Maharashtra for Girls’ Empowerment: Aditi Tatkare
Mumbai, Sept 2025 : The state of Maharashtra is actively implementing the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign to celebrate the birth of girls, increase their participation in education, and prevent child marriage. Over the past six months, 873 activities have been organized with the participation of 1,46,459 citizens, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare informed. She also directed officials to use modern technology to reach more citizens under this initiative.
The minister was addressing a review meeting at Mantralaya on matters related to the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, pending cases under Family Counseling Centers, supply of essential goods to government institutions, progress on Ahilya Bhavan in Chembur, pending issues related to the Children’s Aid Society, and the selection of members for the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The meeting was attended by Department Secretary Dr. Anupkumar Yadav, Commissioner Nayana Gunde, Joint Secretary V. R. Thakur, Joint Commissioner Rahul More, and other officials.
Minister Tatkare emphasized that the campaign is being implemented effectively to ensure the dignity and safety of the girl child. Districts have also been categorized based on the child sex ratio. As part of this campaign, activities such as health camps, celebrations of girl child births, and street plays are organized. She instructed that in districts where child marriages are reported, the campaign must be conducted more extensively.
She further directed that recruitment should be carried out to ensure effective implementation of schemes. Funds must be released in a timely manner to institutions implementing departmental schemes. Immediate action must be taken to establish Ahilya Bhavan in Chembur and to complete the selection process of members for the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Additionally, she stated that the 44 Family Counseling Centers currently in operation should be merged with One Stop Centers. Caseworkers and counselors from these centers should be formally appointed as counselors in the One Stop Centers. Pending payments for counselors will also be released immediately, she assured.
