Chief Minister Meets Irrigation & Water Resources Minister and Officials

Aizawl, Sept 2025: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma met in his office with Pu P.C. Vanlalruata, Minister of Irrigation & Water Resources, along with officials from the department, to review various projects and initiatives.

The Chief Minister said that due to the heavy dependence of farmers on seasonal rains, there is an urgent demand for good water resources. He noted that the department has great potential to carry out significant work and stressed that the projects and initiatives discussed today are essential for the state’s development. “If we can implement good projects, we will continue to support them,” he assured.

Key points discussed:

  1. Tuidai Multipurpose Project, Mamit: Work to begin soon with funding of Rs. 29.6 crore from NABARD, and the contractor selection process is already underway.
  2. Mat Valley Integrated Water Resource Management & Climate Resilient Irrigation Project, Serchhip: The DPR has been finalized and a Core Group has been formed. The project includes irrigation, crop cultivation, water conservation, and eco-tourism. The Brahmaputra Board and the state government are considering financing options through the state budget.
  3. Tlawng River Springshed Rejuvenation: Plans being prepared in collaboration with the Brahmaputra Board.
  4. Scientific Water Distribution Project: The central government is working to implement modern scientific methods of water use in Leilet/Phai command areas. For Mizoram, a pilot project has been approved for Champhai and Mat valley command areas.
  5. National Hydrology Project and State Water Informatics Centre: Plans for continued development in Mizoram were discussed.
  6. Ngur–Vapar Multipurpose Dam: The site is under review for Forest Clearance before construction begins.
  7. Serlui B Hydroelectric Project: Officials discussed better use of excess water release after power generation to support farming downstream.

The meeting also covered other important issues related to the advancement and strengthening of the department.
