Amrit Sarovar Becomes a Medium of Women Empowerment
Fish Farming Makes Women Self-Reliant, Rs. 1.30 Lakh Net Profit Earned
Raipur, Sept 2025 : Under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Amrit Sarovar Mission, ponds constructed for water conservation are now emerging as a source of economic growth for rural communities. The Amrit Sarovar of Kodasia village in Raigarh district is a living example, where women of the Padmavati Self-Help Group are becoming self-reliant through fish farming.
Ten women members of the group collectively started fish farming in the 2.70-acre Amrit Sarovar. For the initial investment, Rs. 6,000 was spent on fish seeds, Rs. 10,000 on feed, and Rs. 4,000 on nets and labor. This small investment yielded big results. By selling fresh fish in Kodasia’s weekly market and along the pond banks, the women earned Rs. 1.50 lakh in revenue, leading to a net profit of Rs. 1.30 lakh. Each member received a dividend of Rs. 13,000.
This success from fish farming has not only strengthened the women’s economic condition but also boosted their confidence. Today, they are playing an active role in the village economy. Selling fish on the banks of the Amrit Sarovar, these women have become an inspiration for other women in the village.
This initiative is not just limited to business—it marks the beginning of economic self-reliance and social change. Where women were once confined to household responsibilities, they are now organized, earning income, and providing support to both their families and society. Kodasia’s Amrit Sarovar today stands as a symbol of courage, hard work, and women empowerment.
