Mizoram Government and Opikpure Pvt. Ltd. Sign MoU for Ginger Processing Unit

Aizawl, Sept 2025: Today, the Mizoram Government and Opikpure Pvt. Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a Ginger Processing Unit in Khuangleng, Champhai District. The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. K.C. Lalmalsawmzauva, Adviser to the Chief Minister, along with Pinky Zosangpuii, Joint Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, and the Managing Director of Opikpure Pvt. Ltd., whose names were officially recorded in the document.

The project is planned within the Industrial Estate in Khuangleng, covering approximately 10 acres, and will focus on ginger processing and value addition. Under this initiative, Opikpure Pvt. Ltd. will develop the industrial estate with government support, aiming to create sustainable employment opportunities for the local population. The total investment for this project is projected at 2.5 crore rupees, with production expected to commence in 2026.

During the MoU signing, the Managing Director of Opikpure Pvt. Ltd. explained that the plant will process around 20 metric tons of ginger per day. The company intends to focus on organic and high-quality ginger products, ensuring that locally grown ginger is processed efficiently. The project will also encourage organic farming practices among local farmers, providing training and support for organic certification. Besides ginger, the plant will explore processing other organic products as well.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Pi Maria C.T. Zuali, Member of the Special Investment Committee for Agriculture & Allied Sector, LP Lalchangkima, Secretary of Horticulture Department, Managing Director of ZIDCO, Pi C. Lalnunsiami, Senior Research Officer, and Dr. H. Lianzela, Director of Commerce & Industries Department.

This initiative is expected to boost agriculture-based industries in Mizoram, generate employment, and provide an organized platform for local ginger farmers to access modern processing facilities and global markets.
