Raipur Central Jail Resonates with Devotion to Goddess Durga,

802 Inmates Observe Fast Special arrangements of worship and fruit-based meals made by jail administration

Raipur, Sept 2025 : On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, the atmosphere of Raipur Central Jail became filled with reverence, devotion, and enthusiasm. In the jail premises, sculptor inmates have prepared three grand clay idols of Goddess Durga. Out of these, one idol has been installed in the women’s barrack and two idols in the men’s barrack, where special worship, hymns, devotional singing, and cultural programs are being organized.

For the worship of Goddess Durga, 802 inmates of Raipur Jail have also kept fasts. Among them, 31 women inmates have undertaken a three-day fast and 49 women inmates have undertaken a nine-day fast. Meanwhile, in the men’s barrack, 722 inmates have solemnly begun nine-day fasting.

For the convenience of the inmates, the jail administration has made special arrangements for worship materials and fruit-based meals (falahaari), which include milk, bananas, roasted gram, and jaggery. Through collective fasting and devotion, spiritual energy and a positive environment are spreading throughout the jail premises. The worship pandal has been decorated with flowers, rangoli, and lamps. Daily, devotional singing, recitation of Durga Saptashati, and cultural performances are being carried out in the praise of Goddess Durga.

Jail Superintendent Mr. Yogesh Singh Kshatri stated that such religious and cultural programs provide inmates with mental peace, inner strength, and a positive outlook toward life. The festival of Navratri has become a wonderful confluence of faith, discipline, and cultural consciousness in Raipur Central Jail.
