Mumbai, Oct 2025 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced India’s squads for the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia, with Shubman Gill appointed as captain of the ODI side and Suryakumar Yadav set to lead the T20I team.
The tour begins with a three-match ODI series from October 19 to 25, followed by a five-match T20I series scheduled between October 29 and November 8.
In a notable move, veteran stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been named in the ODI squad, but will play under Gill’s leadership. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed vice-captain of the ODI side, while wicketkeeping duties will be shared between KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel. Rising all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and spinner Kuldeep Yadav also find a place in the squad. However, premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the ODIs.
For the T20Is, Suryakumar Yadav retains the captaincy after successfully guiding India to the Asia Cup 2025 title. Gill has been named his deputy. The squad includes explosive finishers like Rinku Singh, alongside the experienced bowling attack of Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav. Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson have been chosen as wicketkeepers, while youngsters Harshit Rana and Abhishek Sharma bring depth to the squad.
The inclusion of seasoned names alongside emerging talent reflects BCCI’s attempt to balance experience with fresh energy ahead of major ICC tournaments. The series will also test Gill’s leadership credentials, marking his first stint as full-time ODI captain.
