Japan Should Increase Investment in Maharashtra’s Industry and Infrastructure – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
Maharashtra is industry-friendly and the preferred state for investment. Many Japanese companies are thriving here. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has urged Japan to further increase investment in the state’s industry and infrastructure sectors.
Newly appointed Consulate General of Japan, Yagi Koji, paid a courtesy call to the Chief Minister at his Varsha residence today. Present at the meeting were Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. I.S. Chahal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge, and Japanese delegation representative Shimada Megumi.
Chief Minister Shinde congratulated Mr. Koji on assuming office. He noted the coincidence that an agreement was signed with Toyota Kirloskar for investment in Maharashtra on the same day as Mr. Koji’s visit. Shinde highlighted the longstanding and strong relations between India and Japan, emphasizing that Maharashtra is the first choice for companies investing in India. He acknowledged the significant investments Japanese companies have made in Maharashtra, which have greatly contributed to the state’s and Mumbai’s infrastructure development. Notable examples include the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, a dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The MTHL was completed on time and opened to the public, and the bullet train project has also gained considerable momentum.
Chief Minister Shinde assured that a special industrial park will be developed at Supe in Pune district specifically for Japanese companies. He promised full support to companies wishing to invest in the state.
Mr. Koji expressed a desire to strengthen the relationship between India and Japan. He noted that the investment agreement signed by Toyota Kirloskar Company in the state indicates Maharashtra’s industry-friendly environment. He praised Chief Minister Shinde for the rapid progress of projects involving Japan, such as the MTHL and the Bullet Train.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Shinde presented various bamboo-made items to Mr. Koji as a gesture of welcome.
