India and Israel share a rich history spanning two thousand years. Both countries gained independence around the same time. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted that the progress Israel has made in various fields in a short period is remarkable.
The event was organized at Hotel St. Regis on the occasion of Israel’s Independence Day. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis spoke at the event, which was attended by Israel’s Ambassador to India Naor Gilon, Consul Kobi Shoshani, Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Works Department Manisha Mhaiskar, Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, former Union Minister Subramaniam Swamy, and other dignitaries.
Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted that both India and Israel have preserved their respective cultures. He noted the significant progress made by Israel in science and technology, attributing it to the ingenuity of the Jewish community. He emphasized the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations, mentioning that many Jewish individuals migrated from Israel to India, some settling in Maharashtra and integrating into the local culture, speaking Marathi fluently. He expressed confidence that the relationship between India and Israel will continue to strengthen.
Municipal Commissioner Gagrani praised Israel’s development despite conflict situations, noting its remarkable achievements in science and technology. He emphasized the special relationship between Maharashtra and Israel, particularly in the Konkan region where the Jewish community is known as Bene Israel. He expressed confidence that the relations between India and Israel will continue to grow.
Additional Chief Secretary Mhaiskar reiterated the long-standing relations between India and Israel, mentioning that some Jewish brothers from Israel settled in Konkan and are active in various fields. She highlighted the strong trade relations between the two countries, anticipating further growth during India’s Amrit period. She also noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel.
Ambassador Gilon praised the strong relations between India and Israel and commended India’s economic progress. He appreciated India’s positive approach towards bilateral relations.
Consul Kobi Shoshani spoke about Israel’s advancements in agriculture, science, and technology, and provided a brief history of Israel. He highlighted the cordial relations between India and Israel. The event was attended by dignitaries from the art, social, and cultural fields.
