Mission Shakti 5.0: 9 lakh girls defeat Anemia as Kanpur sets record in Anemia-free campaign; outstanding performers to be honored

Lucknow/Kanpur, Oct 2025 : Kanpur has set a historic milestone under Mission Shakti 5.0 through its remarkable success in the Anemia-Free Campaign. On Wednesday, more than 904,000 women, adolescent girls, and students across 4,500 centres in the district took iron folic acid (red tablets) simultaneously, spreading a powerful message of health awareness and empowerment. This collective achievement has become a matter of pride not just for Kanpur but for the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.

Taking the campaign a step further, the district administration has announced plans to honor the staff of centers where the highest number of women and girls received iron tablets. During the felicitation ceremony scheduled for Monday, departmental teams that turned this initiative into a mass movement will also be recognized.

District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said that Mission Shakti 5.0 has evolved beyond women’s safety to become a movement for women’s health and confidence. He emphasized that this initiative marks a historic success for Kanpur and that acknowledging the dedication of field staff will further inspire them to achieve the campaign’s goals with greater enthusiasm. The DM congratulated CDO Diksha Jain, CMO Dr Haridutt Nemi, JSI Huda Zehra, and teams from the Health, Education, Panchayati Raj, and Anganwadi departments, emphasising that teamwork and collective effort are crucial to achieving the goal of an anaemia-free Kanpur.

At Vikas Bhawan, under the leadership of Chief Development Officer Diksha Jain, women workers took iron tablets together, sending out the message that a healthy woman is the foundation of a healthy family and a prosperous society. ACMO Dr. Udaybhan Singh informed that the district aims to cover 14 lakh women, with over 9 lakhs already reached in the first phase.

Dr. Piyush Mishra of Kashiram Hospital highlighted that, as per the National Health Survey, nearly 57% of girls aged 15–17 and 60% of women under 50 suffer from anemia—making this campaign a source of genuine relief. Dr. Ruchi Jain, CMS of Dufferin Hospital, added that iron tablets are vital during pregnancy and postpartum periods, and this drive will not only empower women but also ensure healthier families.
Across schools, villages, and Anganwadi centers, the campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation.

Women and students gathered in large numbers at SN Sen College, HB Women’s College, DAV College, Narwal PHC, Dufferin Hospital, Kashiram Hospital, Barra-Govindnagar CHC, Ghatampur-Bilhaur Panchayat Bhawan, and centers in Bithoor and Shivrajpur. Schoolgirls expressed that “the pill may be small, but its impact is immense”, pledging to take it regularly to safeguard their health and that of their families.
