India Need 121 Runs to Seal 2–0 Series Win After West Indies’ Spirited Fightback in Delhi Test
New Delhi, Oct 2025 : India will require 121 runs to complete a 2–0 series sweep after bowling out West Indies for 390 in their second innings on the fourth day of the second and final Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Following on after being dismissed for 248 in their first innings — giving India a massive 270-run lead — the visitors produced a much-improved performance in their second essay, led by John Campbell’s 115 and Shai Hope’s 103, with Justin Greaves adding an unbeaten half-century.
Campbell registered his maiden Test hundred, while Hope ended his long wait for a century — his first in the format since 2017. Together, the duo put on a resilient 177-run stand for the third wicket, blending patience with elegant stroke play and demonstrating grit against India’s bowling attack.
The morning session offered little joy for the hosts until Ravindra Jadeja provided the breakthrough by trapping Campbell lbw as the left-hander attempted a reverse sweep. Hope then found support from Roston Chase, and the pair continued to frustrate India before the second new ball changed the momentum.
Mohammed Siraj dismissed Hope, who chopped one back onto his stumps, sparking a collapse that saw the West Indies tumble from 271/3 to 311/9. Kuldeep Yadav proved decisive, removing Chase and Khary Pierre in the same over to finish with figures of 3/104, while Jasprit Bumrah extracted reverse swing on an unhelpful pitch to claim 3/44.
However, just as India looked set to wrap up the innings quickly, Greaves and Jayden Seales combined for a stubborn 79-run last-wicket stand, lasting 22 overs. Their defiance pushed the match into the final day and extended the lead to 120 runs.
Greaves remained unbeaten on 50, striking three boundaries in his composed knock, while Seales contributed a crucial 32. The pair survived several testing spells and even benefited from two dropped chances — KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel putting down difficult catches — before Bumrah finally ended the partnership when Seales flicked straight to deep square leg.
The West Indies, who were bowled out inside three days in the opening Test in Ahmedabad, displayed commendable resolve and character in Delhi, avoiding a second consecutive innings defeat. Their batting effort, particularly from Campbell, Hope, and Greaves, offered glimpses of their potential after a disappointing start to the series.
Despite being made to toil for 200 overs across three consecutive days, India remain firm favourites heading into the fifth day. With a modest target of 121 and ample time on hand, the hosts will look to wrap up the chase early and secure a clean sweep.
Brief Scores:
India 518/5 decl. in 134.2 overs trail West Indies 248 & 390 in 118.5 overs (John Campbell 115, Shai Hope 103; Jasprit Bumrah 3/44, Kuldeep Yadav 3/104) by 120 runs.
