Two Primary Health Centres in Mizoram Achieve National Quality Certification Under India’s Public Health Standards
Aizawl, Oct 2025:Two Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Mizoram have been newly certified under India’s National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS), marking a significant step toward improving public health infrastructure and service quality in the state. With this, Mizoram now has 36 PHCs out of a target of 57 Health and Wellness Centres (HWC–PHCs) that have received the National NQAS Certificate.
According to Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM) under the Health & Family Welfare Department, the Sialsuk PHC and Suangpuilawn PHC scored 90.06% and 93.14%, respectively, in the NQAS assessment. So far, 49 government health facilities in Mizoram have been nationally certified under NQAS. Additionally, 18 other government health facilities and 21 HWC sub-centres have received state-level certification, while three more PHCs are awaiting national certification results.
The NQAS certification process includes a three-tier assessment system, with the final and most rigorous evaluation being the National External Assessment, conducted by assessors from outside the state. Facilities scoring at least 70% are awarded certification.
NQAS-certified health facilities are evaluated based on several parameters, including:
- Infection control and prevention practices
- Competence and efficiency of healthcare staff
- Quality of clinical and non-clinical services
- Patient care, satisfaction, and facility cleanliness
- Proper waste management and environmental safety measures
Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii congratulated the entire healthcare team for their achievement and expressed appreciation to Dr. C. Lalhmangaiha, Medical Officer of Sialsuk PHC, and Dr. Lalrinsangi, Medical Officer of Suangpuilawn PHC, along with their staff, for their dedication and contribution in achieving this milestone.
The Minister also noted that the 49 NQAS-certified government health facilities in Mizoram are a matter of pride for the state, as they demonstrate tangible progress in healthcare delivery. She urged the public to continue making effective use of these upgraded healthcare services, emphasizing that community participation is essential for sustaining and improving health outcomes.
