Chief Minister Lays Foundation Stone for Reconstruction of Khatima–Melaghat Road Worth ₹20.89 Crore

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Khatima–Melaghat State Highway (State Highway No. 107) in Udham Singh Nagar district after performing traditional prayers. The project, estimated to cost ₹20.89 crore (₹2089.74 lakh), will include the reconstruction of an 11.50 km road, installation of a KC drainage system, road safety works, road signage, and strengthening with TBM and BC layers.

The Chief Minister said that this road is not only a vital development link for the Khatima region but also serves as an important route connecting India with the Nepal border. He added that the improved road would enhance transportation for Khatima and nearby rural areas, while also boosting cross-border trade, tourism, and educational opportunities.

He emphasized that along with road construction, special attention will be given to preventing soil erosion and improving local drainage systems, ensuring that the road remains durable and safe for years to come.

Highlighting Khatima’s growing importance, he said, “Khatima has now become an education hub, attracting students not only from Uttarakhand but also from neighboring border regions.”

Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami stated that the state government aims to make every part of Uttarakhand accessible, strong, and prosperous. Every development project, he said, is a concrete step toward improving people’s lives, and the Khatima–Melaghat road project will prove to be a milestone in that direction.

He added that the Uttarakhand government is working in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that ‘connectivity is the backbone of development’, and that expansion and modernization of roads are being carried out rapidly across the state. He also instructed officials to ensure that all roads remain pothole-free.

At the conclusion of the event, the Chief Minister extended warm greetings to the people for the upcoming Diwali and other festivals, urging everyone to maintain safety, harmony, and cleanliness during the festive season.

The event was attended by District Panchayat President Ajay Maurya, Municipal Chairman Ramesh Chandra Joshi, office bearers Farzana Begum, Anil Kapoor Dabbou, Shankar Koranga, former MLA Dr. Prem Singh Rana, and several other dignitaries.
