Brazil Voices Concern Over US Military Threats Against Venezuela; Caracas Vows to Defend Sovereignty

Oct 2025 : The Chief Advisor to the President of Brazil, Celso Amorim, has expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions between the United States and Venezuela, warning against any potential military action in the region.

In an interview with the Brazilian outlet Metropoles on Friday, Amorim criticized attempts to associate Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro with terrorism. “You may like him or not, but Maduro is not a sponsor of terrorism,” he said, dismissing US narratives linking the Venezuelan government to extremist activities.

Amorim said the recent deployment of US forces near Venezuelan borders and the reported authorization of covert CIA operations by US President Donald Trump had heightened instability across the Caribbean and Latin America. He emphasized that any disputes involving Venezuela “must be resolved through dialogue and respect for national sovereignty,” reaffirming Brazil’s opposition to foreign military intervention.

Brazil continues to maintain diplomatic relations with Caracas and has consistently advocated for peaceful and political solutions to the Venezuelan crisis.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino López issued a strong response from Caracas, asserting that the country would not tolerate any government that bows to foreign interests. “The Bolivarian National Armed Forces will not allow a government that is kneeling, enslaved, or submissive to US interests,” López said during a visit to a military hospital, according to Venezolana de Televisión, the state broadcaster.

He also accused sections of the Venezuelan opposition of inviting foreign intervention and supporting sanctions that have worsened the country’s economic hardships. While acknowledging that opposition voices are vital in a democracy, López condemned what he described as “US military provocations” in the Caribbean, including recent naval manoeuvres near Venezuelan waters that he said had intimidated local fishermen.

Calling the situation “the greatest threat in a century,” the Defence Minister reiterated Venezuela’s desire to avoid confrontation. “We want peace,” he said, stressing that the nation’s armed forces remain committed to defending its independence and territorial integrity.
