UIDAI Launches Major Digital Reforms to Simplify Online Aadhaar Updates
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : In a significant push towards greater digital convenience, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Saturday rolled out sweeping reforms to make Aadhaar updates faster, simpler, and completely online. The changes aim to eliminate the need for cardholders to visit enrolment centres for most corrections or modifications.
Under the new system, individuals can now update essential demographic details — including name, address, date of birth, and mobile number — directly through the UIDAI portal. The information submitted will undergo digital verification using linked government documents such as PAN, passport, driving licence, and ration card, ensuring improved accuracy and quicker approvals.
In line with the government’s broader digital compliance measures, UIDAI also highlighted upcoming deadlines related to Aadhaar-PAN linkage. The Aadhaar-PAN linking must be completed by December 31, 2025, failing which unlinked PAN cards will be deactivated from January 1, 2026. Additionally, new PAN applicants will now be required to complete Aadhaar-based verification as part of the issuance process.
To strengthen identity authentication across financial services, UIDAI has streamlined the digital Know Your Customer (KYC) process for banks and institutions. Users can now verify their identity via Aadhaar OTP-based authentication, video KYC, or optional in-person verification, offering greater flexibility while maintaining security standards.
A revised service fee structure has also been introduced, effective November 1. Aadhaar reprints will cost Rs 40, while biometric updates will be charged at Rs 125. Updating demographic details will cost Rs 75. For home enrolment services, the first applicant will be charged Rs 700, with Rs 350 applicable for each additional person at the same address.
According to UIDAI, these digital-first reforms are designed to enhance both the usability and the security of Aadhaar services, allowing residents to manage their identity records conveniently from home. Previously, most updates required a mandatory visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra, but the new system makes the entire process accessible online through the UIDAI portal.
The reforms mark a major step forward in India’s digital governance ecosystem, ensuring that identity updates are efficient, secure, and citizen-friendly.
