New Delhi on High Alert After Deadly Car Explosion Near Red Fort Metro Station
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : A powerful explosion near Gate Number 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening triggered chaos and panic in one of the most sensitive zones of the national capital. The blast occurred inside a parked car and was so intense that flames rapidly spread to multiple nearby vehicles. Five people were killed, and several others were injured. All the injured were rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, where emergency teams were deployed.
According to the Delhi Fire Department, a distress call was received at 6:55 pm reporting an explosion and a rapidly spreading fire. In response, seven fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site. Firefighters battled the blaze and managed to bring the situation under control, preventing further damage to the nearby metro station entrance and adjacent shops.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of terror as the explosion shattered window panes of nearby establishments and sent people running for safety. Videos circulating on social media showed thick plumes of smoke rising skyward, with several vehicles engulfed in flames. Witnesses reported hearing a loud blast that shook the entire area.
Teams from the Delhi Police Special Cell, forensic experts, and central security agencies quickly arrived to secure the site. The police cordoned off the entire stretch around the metro station, which lies in close proximity to the Red Fort and several government establishments, intensifying concerns about the nature of the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion originated from a single parked car, which then set adjacent vehicles ablaze. Officials stated that they are examining all possible angles, including technical malfunction, targeted attack, or use of explosive material. Forensic teams are currently collecting samples to determine the exact cause.
In light of the explosion, Delhi has been placed on high alert. The Ministry of Home Affairs is closely monitoring developments, given the sensitive location and the timing of the incident. Security across key government buildings, metro stations, and crowded marketplaces has been heightened.
The blast occurred just hours after the Jammu and Kashmir police busted a terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), arresting seven individuals and recovering a cache of weapons, ammunition, and IED-making materials. While authorities have not confirmed any link between the two events, investigators are exploring all possibilities.
