‘Sanchar Saathi’ Portal & App for Digital Safety of Mobile Users
Mumbai, Nov 2025 : For the digital safety of more than 1.20 billion telephone customers in India, especially mobile users, the Department of Telecommunications has launched the citizen-centric initiative “Sanchar Saathi.” Through this digital platform, started in May 2023, mobile users now have an easy and effective facility to control their connections, protect themselves from fraud, and report security threats.
Director Vinay Jambhli of the Department of Telecommunications, Mumbai LSA, and Deputy Director General (DDG) Sumnesh Joshi have appealed to the citizens of Maharashtra to remain alert regarding cyber security.
Citizens should immediately remove unnecessary apps from their mobile devices and always keep their phones updated with the latest security app. Citizens should download the Department of Telecommunications’ citizen-centric Sanchar Saathi app and use all its useful features.
Major Facilities on the Portal and App
Important services such as “Know Your Mobile Connections,” “Block Your Lost/Stolen Mobile,” and “Verify IMEI” are available on the Sanchar Saathi portal. Through these services, citizens can check information about their mobile numbers—meaning how many connections are active under their name using the same identity, block the IMEI of lost or stolen mobile devices, and verify the authenticity of the IMEI number and the device.
These facilities have greatly helped mobile identity management and security. In addition, through the special service “Chakshu,” citizens can report suspicious calls, SMS, or WhatsApp messages. This has made it easier to control fraud, cybercrime, fake identity creation, and unwanted commercial messages.
Keep Your Mobile IMEI Information Safe
Citizens are instructed to keep the original invoice of their purchased mobile devices safe, as the IMEI number of the device is mentioned on that invoice.
If the mobile device has two SIM card slots, it will have two different IMEI numbers. Users should dial *#06# to check their IMEI numbers and save the screenshot in their email, Gmail, or other secure location. This ensures that the information is readily available if the device is lost, allowing timely action.
Through Sanchar Saathi, misuse of a lost mobile can be prevented, and by reporting fraud or suspicious calls, citizens can actively contribute to the cyber-security network.
Strengthening National Security
Through the Sanchar Saathi portal, effective action is being taken against fraud incidents where foreign numbers are displayed as Indian (+91) numbers.
In such complaints, immediate investigation and action are carried out through coordination between the Department of Telecommunications and the police, and the related fraud networks are disabled. This strengthens national security.
Citizens are requested that if international calls appear to come from an Indian number on their mobile, they should immediately inform the toll-free number 1963.
Other Useful Services
Through the “Find Wireline Internet Service Provider (ISP)” service, citizens can easily access information about licensed internet service providers in their area. Also, using the “Trusted Contact Details” feature, citizens can verify the authenticity of a website, email, or contact number, helping them avoid online fraud.
Under this initiative, 2.35 crore SIM-related cases have been successfully resolved, 40 lakh mobile handsets blocked (of which 25 lakh traced), and action has been taken on more than 39 lakh suspicious telecom resources.
Extensive awareness and publicity campaigns are being conducted by the Department of Telecommunications to increase the use of Sanchar Saathi. Now that these services are also available in mobile app form, they are more convenient and useful for the general public.
A Companion for Citizens in the Digital Era
Due to this government initiative, citizens of the country are becoming more secure, aware, and empowered in the digital age, and the Sanchar Saathi initiative is proving to be a true companion in the interests of the people.
