Jubilee Hills By-Election 2023: Congress Flag Flies High as Naveen Yadav Wins by a Landslide; BJP Forfeits Deposit

Hyderabad, Nov 2025 : The Congress delivered a resounding victory in the Jubilee Hills by-election, with party candidate Naveen Yadav securing a commanding win by a margin of 24,658 votes. BRS candidate Manganti Sunitha finished a distant second, while BJP’s Deepak Reddy failed to save his deposit — a clear indication of the party’s weak performance in the constituency. What began as a seemingly tight contest quickly turned decisively in Congress’ favour from the second round of counting.

Early trends suggested a close fight, with the first round of postal ballots giving Congress only a slender four-vote lead. Even the initial EVM count from the crucial Shaikpet area did not indicate a sweeping majority. However, the momentum drastically shifted soon after. By the end of the first round, Yadav had established a narrow lead of 47 votes, but from that point onward, he steadily widened the gap round after round.

Yadav’s lead strengthened significantly even in pockets traditionally seen as BRS strongholds, demonstrating the Congress candidate’s broad acceptability. On average, Congress maintained a lead of over 3,000 votes per round, pushing its advantage to more than 15,000 votes by the sixth round, and exceeding 20,000 votes by the eighth round. By then, Naveen Yadav’s victory was beyond doubt, sparking celebrations across Jubilee Hills.

Congress workers, Ministers, and MLAs gathered in large numbers to celebrate the landslide win, distributing sweets and expressing joy over the party’s emphatic performance. For Naveen Yadav, this victory marked the culmination of a long political journey spanning more than a decade. Beginning his career in 2009 as an AIMIM corporator candidate from the Yousufguda division, he faced multiple electoral setbacks. He contested and lost Assembly and GHMC elections across various years — in 2014, again in municipal elections, and once more as an Independent candidate in 2018.

After years of persistence, Yadav finally achieved breakthrough success in 2023, winning the MLA seat from Jubilee Hills and joining the Congress. His victory in the by-election now stands as a reaffirmation of his rising political stature.

PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud described the win as proof that “there is no place for the BRS in the state”. He predicted that the Congress would remain in power for the next eight years and expressed confidence that the party would secure 100 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Congress leaders credited the result to the widespread approval of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s governance, citing the welfare and development initiatives implemented over the past two years. They asserted that the bypoll outcome was a clear mandate in favour of the ruling party’s performance and its vision for Telangana’s future.
