Deputy Speaker Graces 1st Kolasib Open Chess Championship 2025

Kolasib, Nov 2025: At the Parish Hall in Kolasib, the 1st Kolasib Open Chess Championship 2025 was held. Mizoram Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Pu Lalfamkima attended as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Speaker said that chess, unlike many other games, is played for a long duration, and it creates strong understanding and good bonding among the players; they understand each other very well, he added. He said chess requires deep thinking and mental discipline, and although the game does not involve physical strength, young people should pursue it more.

The Deputy Speaker expressed happiness that many youths today are taking keen interest in chess, and assured that sports enthusiasts will be encouraged so they can perform well even at the North-East level competitions.

In the 1st Kolasib Open Chess Championship 2025 held today, 60 participants from 6 districts took part. There were three categories: Open Category with 32 participants, 50+ Category with 18 participants, and Junior Category with 10 participants. Among the participants, the oldest player was 75 years old and the youngest was 10 years old.

Prizes were distributed at the event, and the results are as follows:
