Uddhav Thackeray Accuses BJP-RSS of Fueling Linguistic Divisions Amid Political Realignments in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Nov 2025 : Shiv Sena (UBT) President and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing them of deliberately spreading “the poison of language” and creating rifts in society through linguistic polarisation.

Thackeray’s remarks came during a programme at his residence, Matoshree, where BJP Yuva Morcha Dombivli Vice President Yogendra Bhoir and his wife, Twinkle Bhoir, formally joined the Shiv Sena (UBT). Welcoming them into the party fold, Thackeray used the occasion to reflect on the political environment in Maharashtra, particularly the rising tensions linked to language identity.

Referring to a controversial statement recently made by a legislator from the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led faction—who allegedly said that even if the ‘mother’ (Marathi language) dies, the ‘aunt’ (Hindi language) must remain—Thackeray expressed deep concern. “What else can you expect from such a person?” he asked, stressing that such comments reveal a dangerous mindset that undermines Maharashtra’s cultural and linguistic heritage.

He further criticised recent comments by senior RSS functionary Bhaiyya Joshi in Ghatkopar, stating that such remarks implied the mother tongue in the region was Gujarati. “This clearly shows how the BJP and RSS are spreading poison and then blaming us for divisions. They are deliberately provoking linguistic regionalism,” Thackeray said.

Expressing grief over the tragic suicide of a 19-year-old college student from Kalyan—who allegedly faced mental distress after an argument over speaking Hindi instead of Marathi—Thackeray said the incident was heartbreaking and should never have happened. “We do not demand that anyone be beaten up over language,” he reiterated, urging restraint and sensitivity in public discourse.

Amid ongoing local body elections and the high-stakes political battle leading up to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, Thackeray claimed that many former supporters and leaders were returning to Shiv Sena (UBT). “People are slowly realising the hypocrisy of the BJP and the traitors who betrayed the original party,” he said, referring to the Shinde faction. He warned his cadre to stay vigilant, saying, “The BJP is a party that schemes and plots. This battle is not easy.”

Escalating his criticism further, he alleged that the BJP, having engineered splits in political parties, was now attempting to sow discord within families as well. “Just as they broke parties, they are now trying to break families,” he stated.

Thackeray also challenged the BJP’s claims of championing Hindutva, asserting that the party’s moral high ground had collapsed. Citing the 2020 Palghar mob lynching of two sadhus—a case the BJP had used to target the then Thackeray-led government—he said the BJP had later inducted the very same person they had accused in connection with the incident. “They believed their sin would be hidden by bringing him into the party. But it became public, and they quickly put a stay on his entry. Their hypocrisy on Hindutva now stands fully exposed,” he said.

Concluding his address, Thackeray urged his workers to remain alert, united, and committed as Maharashtra moves toward critical electoral battles. He reiterated that the party’s fight was not merely political but a struggle to preserve the state’s cultural identity, democratic values, and social harmony.
