Vinesh Phogat Announces Retirement After Olympic Disqualification
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has bid farewell to wrestling. She shared this information on social media, saying, “Maan kushti mere se jeet gayi, main haar gayi. Maaf karna, aapka sapna meri himmat sab toot chuke. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024.” Vinesh apologized to her fans, stating, “I will always be indebted to you.”
Vinesh Phogat made history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to qualify for the Olympic final, winning her semi-final bout with a 5-0 margin.
In response to Vinesh’s announcement, wrestler Bajrang Punia posted on social media, “Vinesh, aap hari nahi, haraya gaya hain. For us, you will always be the winner. We are proud of you, Bharat ki beti.”
Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the final match due to being overweight, leading her to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a silver medal in the event.
