CM Patel Inaugurates Handloom Exhibition at National Institute of Fashion Technology in Gandhinagar
Gandhinagar : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has inspired the annual celebration of August 7 as National Handloom Day to highlight the rich and diverse traditional handicrafts and handloom heritage of our country to the world. Since 2015, National Handloom Day has been observed across the nation on this date. The 10th National Handloom Day was celebrated at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Gandhinagar, where Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel inaugurated a handloom exhibition organized by NIFT. The exhibition showcased a wide range of handicrafts and handloom products from various states, including Gujarat.
Additionally, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel inaugurated three renovated departments at the NIFT campus: the Fashion Design Department, the Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories Department, and the Master of Design Department. India’s rich heritage of handloom and handicraft traditions is a major source of employment, second only to agriculture. Handmade products are environmentally friendly, avoiding harmful emissions and using only natural materials. In his recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to support and use sustainable and eco-friendly handicraft products. The exhibition, inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel on the 10th National Handloom Day at NIFT, serves as a perfect platform to promote these values.
Industries Minister Shri Balwantsinh Rajput, MLA Smt. Ritaben Patel, Mayor of Gandhinagar Smt. Meeraben Patel, NIFT Director Professor Dr. Sameer Sood, Joint Director Professor Dr. Pranav Vora, and professors and students from various faculties were present on this occasion.
