Trump to Visit China in April After “Very Good” Call with President Xi

Washington, Nov 2025 : US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will visit China in April at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The announcement came shortly after what Trump described as a “very good” phone conversation between the two leaders earlier in the day.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the call touched on several key issues, including the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, US–China trade matters, fentanyl, soybeans, and “other farm products.” He added that both sides had reached “a good, and very important, deal for our Great Farmers — and it will only get better.”

Trump said the conversation was a follow-up to their “highly successful” meeting in South Korea three weeks earlier. He noted that both countries had made “significant progress” in keeping recent bilateral agreements “current and accurate.” The President also revealed plans to host Xi for a state visit to the United States later next year, marking a potential reset in relations after years of volatility.

China’s state-run Xinhua news agency confirmed the call and stated that President Xi used the conversation to reiterate Beijing’s “principled position” on Taiwan. Xi emphasized that the question of Taiwan’s return to China is “an integral part of the post-war international order.” He also reminded Trump that “China and the US fought side by side against fascism and militarism” during World War II and said both nations should “jointly safeguard the victorious outcomes” of that era.

The call comes amid rising diplomatic friction between China and Japan following comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding the Taiwan Strait — remarks Beijing viewed as provocative.

According to Xinhua, Xi and Trump also discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine. Xi reiterated China’s support for “all efforts conducive to peace” and expressed hope that all parties would narrow their differences and work toward a “fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement.”

A senior Trump administration official confirmed the call but declined to say which side initiated it. The Wall Street Journal, however, reported that Beijing had arranged the conversation.

The renewed communication comes just weeks after Trump and Xi met in Busan on October 30 — their first face-to-face meeting since 2019. During that meeting, the two nations agreed to a one-year truce on tariffs and export controls, a move widely seen as an attempt to stabilise bilateral ties after a period of heightened tensions.

Both Washington and Beijing have since said the meeting helped reinforce dialogue and reduce friction between the world’s two largest economies, setting the stage for Trump’s upcoming visit to China.
