HP Inc to Cut Up to 6,000 Jobs Globally by 2028 Amid AI-Driven Restructuring
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : HP Inc has announced plans to eliminate between 4,000 and 6,000 jobs globally by fiscal year 2028 as part of a broader initiative to streamline operations and expand the use of artificial intelligence across its business.
The company said the move is intended to accelerate product development, enhance customer service, and improve overall productivity. Following the announcement, HP shares fell 5.5 per cent in extended trading.
During a media briefing, HP CEO Enrique Lores confirmed that the layoffs would primarily affect employees in product development, internal operations, and customer support. He added that the cost-cutting initiative is expected to generate approximately $1 billion in gross run-rate savings over the next three years.
“This initiative is designed to create $1 billion in gross run-rate savings over three years,” Lores said. The company had already reduced its workforce by more than 2,000 employees earlier this year as part of ongoing restructuring efforts.
HP’s announcement comes amid a fresh wave of layoffs in the global technology sector. According to layoff.fyi data, 21 companies cut 18,510 jobs in October alone. Amazon, for instance, recently revealed plans to eliminate more than 14,000 corporate roles as it pivots toward increased investment in artificial intelligence, marking the largest round of corporate job cuts in its history.
November has also seen significant layoffs across the tech sector, with 20 companies laying off 4,545 employees. Chip-design software company Synopsys carried out the largest cuts this month, reducing its workforce by roughly 2,000 employees, or 10 per cent, to redirect resources toward new growth opportunities.
So far in 2025, over 237 tech companies have collectively laid off more than 1.1 million workers, highlighting the ongoing shift in the industry toward AI-driven operations, efficiency, and strategic investment in future technologies.
Lores emphasized that while the layoffs are a difficult step, they are part of HP’s broader strategy to become more agile, reduce bureaucracy, and focus on high-impact areas. The company believes that these structural changes will position HP for sustainable growth and innovation in an increasingly competitive tech landscape.
With AI playing an ever-expanding role in product development and customer engagement, HP’s decision mirrors a wider industry trend of optimizing workforce structures to maintain competitiveness while investing in emerging technologies.
