Telangana to Launch AI University in Two Months, Says IT Minister Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : Telangana’s upcoming Artificial Intelligence University—being developed in collaboration with some of the world’s leading educational institutions—will be launched within the next two months, announced Minister for Information Technology and Industries, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, on Monday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Covalent AI Innovation Centre, the minister said the university aims to provide advanced, future-ready training in emerging technologies for software engineers and students. The initiative, he noted, is strategically designed to accelerate large-scale reskilling and upskilling as India enters an era defined by artificial intelligence.

Sridhar Babu highlighted that the pace at which AI is transforming industries has made it essential for professionals—across coding, data, automation, and other technology domains—to continuously upgrade their capabilities. The new AI University will serve as a dedicated platform to help students and working professionals acquire cutting-edge expertise required in the global technology landscape.

Drawing comparisons with global innovation hubs, the minister said: “Silicon Valley represents world leadership in technology, Shenzhen stands for excellence in manufacturing, and Singapore is synonymous with discipline and good governance. Hyderabad today is emerging as a unique blend of all three.” He added that no other Indian city currently offers an ecosystem as strong, diverse, and supportive for innovation and enterprise.

He further emphasised Hyderabad’s rise as India’s top destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs). “Hyderabad now leads the country with the highest number of GCCs. Several global banking and financial giants have chosen this city to set up their centres, and that is a matter of great pride for all of us,” he said.

The minister also underscored Hyderabad’s rapid strides in life sciences, noting that nearly one-third of India’s vaccines are manufactured in the city. He pointed to the increasing number of healthcare innovation centres as further evidence of the city’s unmatched growth and potential.

At the event, Sridhar Babu praised the Covalent group for its contribution to the innovation ecosystem. He noted that the Covalent Centre already employs around 500 engineers and is preparing for significant expansion with plans to create 3,000 additional jobs over the next two years.

He also commended Covalent Chairman C.V. Subramanyam for his entrepreneurial journey—from beginning with just 18 employees under the name Cigniti decades ago, to building a global organisation employing thousands.

Covalent Chairman Subramanyam, IT & Industries Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Government IT Advisor Saikrishna, and UK Deputy High Commissioner Gareth Wynn Owen were present at the event.

Team Maverick.
