CM Bhajanlal Sharma to Lay Foundation for Reconstruction of Ferozepur Feeder; 100 Years of Gang Canal to Mark Major Irrigation Boost
Jaipur, Dec 2025 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Rajasthan’s canal network is being significantly strengthened. Continuing this effort, CM Sharma will lay the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Ferozepur Feeder on December 5. This major step will ensure year-round water availability in the Gang Canal, enabling farmers to irrigate their Rabi and Kharif crops as per need.
Under the reconstruction plan of the Ferozepur Feeder, works will be undertaken from RD 0 to 168.230, including CC lining, reconstruction of two head regulators, construction of one new head regulator, reconstruction of one cross regulator, reconstruction of 19 VRBs/DRBs, and rebuilding of three railway crossing bridges. These improvements will help divert additional water arriving at Harike Barrage into the Ferozepur Feeder, directly benefiting the Gang Canal. As a result, farmers across 3.14 lakh hectares of the canal command area will benefit, and agricultural production is expected to rise.
Due to CM Sharma’s initiative, a budget provision of ₹200 crore was made in the 2024–25 state budget for the reconstruction of the Ferozepur Feeder. The Central Water Commission has approved the DPR for this work. The total project cost is ₹647.62 crore, with Punjab contributing ₹379.12 crore and Rajasthan contributing ₹268.50 crore.
Significantly, on December 5, 1925, Maharaja Ganga Singh had laid the foundation stone of the Gang Canal. On the historic occasion of the project completing 100 years in 2025, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma will lay the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Ferozepur Feeder. This redevelopment will enhance the total water-drawing capacity of the feeder, ensuring greater irrigation security for farmers.
