A New Chapter in Bastar’s Development: 87 New Roads to Be Built in Remote Areas at a Cost of ₹240 Crore
A new lifeline for far-flung villages
Raipur, Dec 2025 : Bastar’s development has entered a new chapter as 87 new roads, costing ₹240.68 crore, have been approved for construction in the remote regions of the district under Phase-4 of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Due to its dense forests and challenging terrain, Bastar has long struggled with connectivity issues, leaving hundreds of settlements isolated from the mainstream. Despite these difficulties, black-topped all-weather roads are being constructed to connect interior habitations under the Central Government’s ambitious PMGSY scheme. In this sequence, the newly approved 87 roads will significantly boost year-round access for remote residents.
The total length of these roads is approximately 237 kilometers, becoming a true lifeline for the rural and remote populations of Bastar. This project is not just about road construction, but a strong effort to ensure access to development, healthcare, and education in sparsely populated regions.
Many of the approved PMGSY roads specifically connect extremely remote areas. Major roads include the 14.40-km stretch from Tiriya to Pulcha in Jagdalpur development block and the 7.50-km connectivity from Barsur Palli Road to Kachenar in Lohandiguda block, which will ease access for locals to markets, schools, hospitals, and government offices. In the most challenging Darbha block, roads connecting Darbha–Koleng Road to Khaspara–Kakalgur, and Lendra Atal Chowk to Bhataguda, as well as from Purana Gram Panchayat to Padia Aathgaon and from Kurengapara Road to Jalaghatpara via Chalkipara, have also been included. These are settlements where improved connectivity was critically needed.
Under this project, the Bakawand and Lohandiguda blocks have received approval for the longest stretches, each exceeding 50 kilometers. This vast network of 87 roads will not only offer smoother transportation for the people of Bastar but also ensure that essential government schemes reach every resident, even those living in the most difficult conditions. The approval marks a significant step toward the overall socio-economic upliftment of Bastar.
