India Storm Into Junior World Cup Quarterfinals With Dominant Win Over Switzerland

Dec 2025 : The Indian junior men’s hockey team continued their outstanding form at the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025, securing a smooth passage into the quarterfinals after remaining unbeaten in the round-robin stage. On Tuesday, the Indian Colts delivered a commanding 5–0 victory over Switzerland at the Madurai International Hockey Stadium. Led by skipper Rohit and guided by head coach PR Sreejesh, India will now face Belgium in a high-stakes quarterfinal clash on December 5.

From the outset, the visitors struggled to match India’s pace, skill, and cohesion. The hosts took control in the second minute when Manmeet Singh—celebrating his birthday—opened the scoring with a sharp field goal. The young forward doubled India’s advantage just nine minutes later with another brilliantly executed strike, putting his team firmly in command.

India’s dominance grew as Sharda Nand Tiwari converted a penalty corner in the 13th minute, extending the lead to 3–0. The electrifying start delighted the passionate Madurai crowd, who braved cyclonic conditions to cheer on their national team.

Continuing their aggressive play, India added a fourth goal in the 28th minute through Arshdeep Singh, who had earlier scored a hat-trick in the match against Oman. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Prince Deep Singh remained rock-solid, pulling off several impressive saves that denied Switzerland even a glimmer of hope.

India maintained complete control in the final stages of the match. Sharda Nand, who delivered a stellar all-round performance, struck again in the 54th minute with another penalty corner conversion. His second goal of the day sealed a comprehensive 5–0 victory and earned him the Player of the Match award.

The win marks India’s third dominant performance in the tournament, following their emphatic 7–0 triumph over Chile and a staggering 17–0 win against Oman. With momentum firmly on their side, India will now shift their focus to Chennai, where they will play their quarterfinal match on December 5.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Australia registered a 3–1 victory over Korea, while England defeated Malaysia by the same scoreline. France edged Bangladesh 3–2, the Netherlands overpowered Austria 11–0, Chile beat Oman 2–0, Belgium cruised past Egypt 10–0, and Spain routed Namibia 13–0.

Team Maverick.
