Cancel Extended Charges Levied by MMRDA and Reduce Rent: Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane
Mumbai, December 2025 : Maharashtra Fisheries Development and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane has directed that the extended charges levied by MMRDA in connection with the proposed office building of the Maharashtra Maritime Board at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) should be canceled and the rent rates reduced.
Several meetings were organized at the Ministry in connection with the Fisheries and Ports Department. Officials present included Additional Chief Secretary, Transport & Ports Department Sanjay Sethi, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA Vikram Kumar, CEO of Maharashtra Maritime Board Pradeep P., Chief Port Officer Captain Praveen Khara, along with other concerned officers.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on pending issues related to the construction of the Maharashtra Maritime Board’s office building on Plot No. 47, G Block, BKC. It was highlighted that the charges and rent imposed by MMRDA were increasing the financial burden on the project. In this context, Minister Rane instructed that the extended charges should be canceled and the rent rates reconsidered and reduced to expedite the construction of this building, which is crucial for the comprehensive development of the state’s maritime sector.
The meeting also reviewed sensitive issues under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, including highly sensitive villages under 13 regional committees, and the exclusion of 9 + 7 villages from the Maharashtra Maritime Board’s special planning authority jurisdiction under the newly formed 6 regional committees, in line with the Board’s statutory framework.
