New Delhi, Dec 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presented a Russian-language copy of the Bhagavad Gita to visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin, underscoring the timeless and universal appeal of the sacred Indian scripture. Calling the Gita a source of inspiration for millions across the world, the Prime Minister described its teachings as a guiding force for humanity.

Sharing the moment on social media platform X, PM Modi posted a photograph of himself handing over the Russian edition of the Gita to President Putin. In the image, both leaders are seen holding the book as the Prime Minister presents it to his Russian counterpart. “Presented a copy of the Gita in Russian to President Putin. The teachings of the Gita give inspiration to millions across the world,” PM Modi wrote.

The Russian translation of the Bhagavad Gita is among several versions of the ancient text that have been published in different global languages over the years. These editions have found readers across academic, spiritual, and cultural fields, reflecting the scripture’s enduring relevance beyond national and linguistic boundaries. PM Modi has frequently highlighted the universal values of the Gita, including duty, selfless action, and inner balance, at international forums.

Earlier in the evening, President Putin arrived in New Delhi for a two-day State Visit. PM Modi received him personally at the airport in a special gesture that reflected the close bond between the two leaders. The official residence of the Prime Minister at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg was illuminated with special lighting and decorated with the national flags of both countries to welcome the visiting dignitary. Shortly after arrival, PM Modi led President Putin inside for a private dinner.

The two leaders shared a warm greeting at the airport, embracing each other before proceeding together. They also briefly watched and applauded a cultural performance organised as part of the welcome ceremony.

Expressing his enthusiasm ahead of the bilateral engagements, PM Modi said he was looking forward to detailed discussions with President Putin later in the evening and on Friday. “Delighted to welcome my friend, President Putin, to India. Looking forward to our interactions later this evening and tomorrow. India-Russia friendship is a time-tested one that has greatly benefitted our people,” he posted on X.
