Government Orders High-Level Probe into IndiGo Flight Disruptions

Dec 2025 : The government on Friday announced the launch of a high-level inquiry into the widespread disruptions at IndiGo Airlines, which have left thousands of passengers stranded across airports in India. The investigation will examine what went wrong at the airline, determine accountability where required, and recommend measures to prevent similar disruptions in the future, ensuring passengers do not face such hardships again.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that authorities expect flight schedules to stabilise by Saturday, with complete restoration of services anticipated within the next three days. “We expect that flight schedules will begin to stabilise and return to normal by tomorrow. Complete restoration of services should be achieved within the next three days,” he said.

To support affected passengers, airlines have been instructed to provide accurate and regular updates through enhanced online information systems, enabling travellers to track real-time flight statuses from their homes. In case of cancellations, airlines are required to automatically issue full refunds, without the need for passengers to make requests. Stranded passengers will also be provided with hotel accommodations arranged directly by the airlines, the minister added.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken urgent steps to address the ongoing disruption, particularly concerning IndiGo Airlines. Among the measures, the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) orders of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have been temporarily placed in abeyance.

“Without compromising on air safety, this decision has been taken solely in the interest of passengers, especially senior citizens, students, patients, and others who rely on timely air travel for essential needs,” the minister emphasised.

Additional operational measures have been implemented to restore airline services as quickly as possible and to minimise inconvenience to travellers. These include better crew deployment, revised scheduling, and enhanced monitoring of flight operations.

Furthermore, the Ministry has set up a 24×7 control room to monitor the situation in real time, ensuring swift corrective action, effective coordination among stakeholders, and immediate resolution of arising issues.

With these interventions, the government aims to bring stability to flight operations, restore passenger confidence, and prevent a recurrence of such large-scale disruptions in the future.
