Dabri Becomes the Path to Prosperity: Farmer Hirmaram’s Income Doubles, Annual Earnings Rise by Up to One Lakh Rupees
Raipur, December 2025 : A small water pond (Dabri), constructed under MGNREGA, has brought a major transformation in the life of farmer Hirmaram. As soon as the Dabri was built, the very first monsoon proved to be a blessing for him. The pond filled with water, enabling Hirmaram to start fish farming alongside paddy cultivation. He began by releasing 5 kilograms of fish seed, which now provides him with an additional annual income of approximately ₹1,10,000.
Dabri constructed with an approval of ₹2.94 lakh under MGNREGA
Under the guidance of the Sukma District Collector and the District CEO, the impact of government schemes is becoming visible rapidly. Prioritising public welfare, the administration is ensuring that livelihood-oriented schemes reach the beneficiaries.
Farmer Hirmaram of Gram Panchayat Ramarama, who owns only 2 acres of land, earlier cultivated only during the rainy season. Due to the lack of irrigation facilities, his fields remained unused for the rest of the year, resulting in very low family income. When he learned in the Gram Sabha about the possibility of constructing a Dabri under MGNREGA, he immediately applied. The Gram Panchayat approved ₹2.94 lakh and initiated the construction work.
Dabri provides a source of regular income
Filled with joy, Hirmaram shares that earlier his income depended solely on farming, but the creation of the Dabri has now provided him with a new, regular source of earnings. He says, “MGNREGA has made me financially stronger. I sincerely thank Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai and the district administration.”
Today, this Dabri has become a permanent foundation of prosperity for his family.
